EADS Defence & Security recently prolonged its success in the Chinese metro market by supplying a digital TETRA radio communication system for Wuhan Metro Line 1.

As the system supplier, EADS Secure Networks (SN), an integrated line of business of EADS Defence & Security (DS), will provide Wuhan Metro Co., Ltd. with an end-to-end solution, from the switch to the hand-portable radio. In addition, EADS Secure Networks will install the entire TETRA system and provide training and related technical support services. Meanwhile, it will join forces with the system integrator, Shenzhen SEG Communication Co., Ltd (SEGCC), to develop specific applications that will meet the specific requirements of metro operations.

EADS SN will begin to supply devices for phase I of the metro in February 2008. Planned to be launched in late October 2008, the system will provide perfect communications support for train dispatching, operation and management, security, and disaster relief of Wuhan Metro to ensure secure, efficient and orderly operation.

As China’s tenth city to build a metro system, Wuhan plans to construct a rail transit network of 7 lines with a total length of over 220km.
