Sweden issues warrant against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange for suspected rape case

Sweden has issued warrant against against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as per Expressen report, a Swedish paper. As per the case, two women in their twenties approached the Stockholm police on Friday. As per the warrant by the Swedish Prosecution Authority, Assange is accused of “one report of rape and one report of molestation.”

The Expressen report says that, Assange spent time with one of the women at an apartment in Södermalm in Stockholm on Saturday night, while he met the other women in the nearby town of Enköping. The prosecution authority say that Assange was suspected of rape in the Enköping case and molestation in Stockholm.

Stockholm daily Dagens Nyheter mentions that the WikiLeaks founder also personally denied the accusations in an email to. “Why these accusations are coming at this point in time is an interesting question. I haven’t been contacted by the police. The allegations are false.”

The report says that, Assange was guest of the Association of Christian Social Democrats last week. WikiLeaks has moved the servers from the United States to Sweden in 2007 due to Swedish laws that protect journalists’ sources.
