The Indian 2009 poll results out. It contains big upsets and successes. Indians rejected the communal and the communist. The Indian Prime Minister Mammohan Singh is back. Why this Singh, the king?
On Friday, Dec 24, 2004, A condolence resolution passed by the Cabinet, presided over by the Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh. It was for none other than Father of Modern India, Hon. former Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao. Dr. Singh said that Mr. Rao was like “a father figure to me whom I could turn to when in doubt.”

I have never attacked Dr. Manmohan Singh of being soft. Dr. Singh’s reason for total silence is the imitation of same strategy adopted by Hon. P.V. Narasimha Rao. Hon. Rao would maintain a stony silence on very critical issue, but, always achieved his objectives.
The BJP communal leader LK Advani called Dr. Singh weak and other terms. What he could not fathom was that Dr. Singh was employing the strategy of Hon. Rao. This is a fatal mistake LK Advani made. LK Advani tried to forge himself as “Iron Man”, but the “humbleness” of Dr. Singh was more appeasing to Indians (even to the world and I would rate it next to people President APj Kalam). After “India shining,” the “iron man’ was the second mistake of the BJP. Humbleness was another great quality of Hon. P.V. Narasimha Rao.
Though LK Advani is not a Prime Ministerial material but Prakash karat of the CPI (M) is a nightmare come true for India. You can see how people have reacted to Dr. Singh, LK Advani and Prakash karat. Each have won and lost elections for their party in proportion to the humbleness and arrogance they displayed. LK Advani was much more accomodative of Dr. Singh than Prakash karat who was politician equivalent of rabid street dog.
The foresight shown by Dr. Singh is another great quality that was displayed by Hon Rao. Hon Rao was a great strategist. Hon. Rao’s look east strategy, economic reforms, external policies etc have made India a dynamic nation. Hon. Rao would wait it out, destroy all opposition, pull of surprises and get his job done. The same strategy was displayed by Dr. Singh.
The Hon Rao – Dr. Singh equation has saved the day for Congress. Hon. Rao would keep political interference out of Dr. Sings work. The idea of dynastic leadership is increasingly not getting palatable with large section of Indians. Currently the same formula has been employed and Congress is reaping the benefits.
Dr. Singh even took on Rahul Gandhi when Rahul Gandhi blamed Hon. P V Narasimha Rao for congress party’s woes in North India. Dr. Singh said Rao was a “a visionaryâ€, a “true pluralist†and a “sanyasi in politics.â€
Dr. Manmohan Singh is Hon. P.V. Narasimha Rao’s ghost come true.
