Jaipur: Hawa Mahal’s Windows have been shut. The reason is visitors slam the windows and over the years the miniature hinges hinges are in bad conditions. The concerned authorities plan to put a barricade before the windows so that people don’t reach them. The Jaipur Hawa Mahal walls are also thin and visitors lean on the wall. This puts them in danger as well as the wall too.
Hawa Mahal means ‘Palace of Wind.’ By shutting down the window, its not Hawa Mahal any more. Hawa Mahal surfer’s the fate of many national monuments which have been either closed for the public or partially shut. Visitors have been defacing the walls and harming the monuments, which are already threatened by the natural reasons.

The 18th century monument has 365 green colored windows, which are now closed. The windows are not original as they have been replaced by the the monument authorities. The Hawa Mahal, architecture is in the form of a honeycomb. It is five story high building. There are in total 953 small windows (jharokas) which feature intricate lattice work.
