Vice Admiral R P Suthan is the new C-in-C of ENC

Vice Admiral Raman Prem Suthan took over as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command at Vishakapatnam today from Vice Admiral A K Singh.

An alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasala, Vice Admiral Suthan was commissioned in the Indian Navy in July 1970, a Navy press release said here today.

He saw action early in life as the Navigating Officer of INS Kavaratti, which played an active role in the Eastern Fleet Operations off erstwhile East Pakistan in 1971. After specialisation in Navigation and Direction, he held various Staff, Instructional, Operational and Command appointments.

Suthan is a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. During his career the Vice Admiral commanded five ships of different sizes and capabilities. He was Fleet Navigation Officer of the Eastern Fleet and later went on to become Flag Officer Commanding of the Eastern Fleet, one of the two sword arms of the Navy.

He was the Defence Advisor at the High Commission of India, Singapore and has the unique distinction of being Chief of Staff of both the Southern Naval Command and the Eastern Naval Command, the release said.

Vice Admiral Suthan is a recipient of the Ati Vishist Seva Medal (AVSM) and Vishist Seva Medal.
