Unified Commanders’-in-Chief (UCC) Conference, 2007

Heads of Joint Services Headquarters, Commanders-in-Chief of Andaman & Nicobar Command and Strategic Forces Command and the Commandants of Tri-Services Institutions are attending the two-day Unified Commanders’-in-Chief (UCC) Conference, 2007, being held at the headquarters of the Integrated Defence Staff, New Delhi.

The conference inaugurated on 18 June,2007 is discussing strategies to bring about coordination between the Army, Navy and Air Force. Top strategists are also reviewing the progress achieved so far in this transformation and try to work out a conceptual way forward. They are expected to discuss the creation of the post of Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to promote greater synergy among the forces.

Unified Commanders’-in-Chief Conference, 2006, saw release of the Joint Doctrine, prepared by the Headquarters, Integrated Defence Staff. This doctrine contains the fundamental principles of conducting future joint operations with the aim of enhancing the joint war fighting capability of the Indian Armed Forces.The Indian Air Force and the Indian Army subsequently held a number of joint exercises to verify the joint doctrine.

Chief of Army Staff Gen JJ Singh is currently the Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee.
