T-20 cricket tournament for deaf in Mumbai

Mumbai: All India Cricket Association of Deaf affiliate, the Maharashtra Deaf Cricket Federation (MDCF) has announced the National T20 Cricket Tournament for the Deaf 2013. The event has been planned from 30th April to 4th May 2013 and will be conducted at Police Gymkhana, Islam Gymkhana and Purandare Stadium in Mumbai.

The participating teams are from Maharashtra, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, UP, Jharkhand, Uttaranchal, Tamil Nadu, Kerela, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and West Bengal.

“By means of these tournaments, we support Deaf cricketers in India who have immense cricketing potential as well as a promising future in cricket at various National and International level. By means of conducting such tournaments, we try to encourage deaf young sportsman to join with Deaf Cricket for local competition, National Deaf Cricket Tournaments and World Deaf Cricket Competition.” said Ranjit Bagwe, Joint secretary of Maharashtra Deaf Cricket Federation (MDCF).

The aims of MDCF is to foster and encourage deaf people’s participation and skill development in all forms of cricket partnership. They also continually advocate, educate, inform and support the mainstream cricket stricter to make it deaf friendly and capable of including deaf people within the structure. The federation also fosters relationships with the government and deaf and mainstream bodies to support.

Feelings help people to get sensitize to their needs and act on them instead of the negative forces like worries and anxiety. It also helps people around them. “A river greens the surroundings too, the surroundings automatically benefit,” says Sharma.

For over 3 decades, Sharma has been assisting people to relive their lives. “We conduct courses for self help by using techniques like healing by feelings and graphology.” says Avni Amin, who assists Surendra Sharma. “It takes just Rs 2500 a month and 6 months on an average to see visible changes in self,” she adds.

Thuraya handset lands Dhow MSV Yusufi in trouble

Mumbai: Using a banned Thuraya set for communication between Dubai and India has landed Dhow MSV Yusufi in trouble with the Coast Guard. The Dhow was transiting from Dubai to Hey Bunder at Mumbai with a crew of 5 Indians.

The Coast Guard and Navy intercepted the dhow after an intelligence input. The crew of dhow were reportedly in touch with one Mr Usman at Dubai for whom the goods were being brought at Mumbai.

MSV Yusufi

Upon sighting the coast guard ship on 03 Apr 13, the crew of dhow allegedly panicked and threw the Thuraya communication set over board. 27 goats, bonded goods like imported cigarettes and mobile accessories along with television sets were found onboard. The dhow has been handed over to Yellow Gate police station for joint interrogation and further rummaging by concerned agencies.

The interception and investigation of the dhow was undertaken by coast guard ships ICGS Amrit Kaur and C-154 under the command of Comdt AK Pandey and Dy Comdt Arvind Tyagi respectively. The operation also tested the flow of information and coordination among State, Port, Police, Coast Guard, Navy and other agencies.

Mega Block on Mumbai suburban train network on Sunday 24.3.2013

Mumbai: After pausing its mega blocks on Sunday 17th march to facilitate students writing exams, Central Railway has announced Mega Block on its Mumbai suburban sections for carrying out maintenance work on Sunday 24.3.2013. Down slow lines between Thane and Kalyan stations will operate block from 11 AM to 4 PM. Down Slow/Semi fast services leaving Mulund from 10.39 am to 3.48 pm will be diverted on Dn fast line between Mulund and Kalyan stations halting at Thane and Dombivli.

Downslow line services will not be available at Kalva, Mumbra, Diva, Kopar and Thakurli stations during the block period. However passengers of these stations are permitted to travel via Dombivli/Kalyan in up direction.

In addition to their respective scheduled halts Dn fast line services will halt at Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Mulund and Up fast line services will halt at Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar and Kurla stations during the block period.

On down Harbour Line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus & Kurla, and on Up and Down Harbour Lines between Vadala Road and Bandra Stations, the blok will be operated from 11.10 AM TO 3.10 PM.

Down Harbour line services to Bandra/Andheri leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus from 10.48 am to 3.33 pm and Up Harbour line services towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus leaving Bandra /Andheri from 10.40 am to 4.13 pm will remain suspended.

All down Harbour line services for Panvel / Belapur / Vashi leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus from 10.52 am to 3.13 pm will run via Main line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Kurla. These trains will not halt at Currey Road and Chinchpokli stations.

Harbour line passengers for Bandra/ Andheri are permitted to travel Via Main line and Western Railway from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on 24.3.2013.

8 picked for Mumbai Mantra | Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab 2013

Mumbai: Eight Indian screenwriters have been selected for the second annual Mumbai Mantra | Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab scheduled from March 10-15 at a Club Mahindra Resort.

The selected include Sarthak Dasgupta (The Music Teacher); Pratim D. Gupta (Ink); Nitin Kakkar (Black Freedom); Abhijit Mazumdar (Delirium); Terrie Samundra (Betamax); Renuka Shahane (Tribhanga); Kavanjit Singh (Television); and Neha Sinha (Forgiven).

The Creative Advisors, Lab Fellows, the Selection Advisory Committee for Mumbai Mantra-Sundance Institute Screenwriters Lab 2013

The Lab was announced and inaugurated today during a star studded brunch at JW Marriott, Mumbai. Income Tax dept detects Rs 7222 cr worth fake bills in Mumbai & Pune

Mumbai: Income Tax Department has reported a major breakthrough in its crackdown on beneficiaries of more than 2000 hawala transactions. The dept found 7,222 crore rupees worth of fake bills had been presented by 189 assessees in Mumbai and Pune in their returns – to artificially deflate taxable income. These 189 assessees are hawala beneficiaries from the construction, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and steel sectors.

The IT Department’s investigations into 150 cases in Mumbai unearthed 6,500 crore rupees bogus bills, while 722 crore rupees fake ones came to light through 39 cases in Pune. IT Department states that a large number of taxpayers obtained bogus (non-genuine) bills for purchases and expenses from hawala dealers and used those to suppress taxable income.

The IT department has collected these inputs from VAT / Sales Tax Department of Maharashtra.

The crackdown is set to be extended to other business centres of the country, with the tax officials closely examining the possibility of tax evasion in a planned and concerted manner through forged bills.

Tribal Tech Jazz Fusion Band to perform in Mumbai

Mumbai: Internationally acclaimed progressive fusion band TRIBAL TECH is scheduled to perform on 14th March 2013 at the St. Andrews Auditorium, Bandra, Mumbai. This is the first time the Band is performing in India.

The band was formed in the late ’1980s with members, Scott Henderson, Gary Willis, Scott Kinsey and Kirk Covington. Until the mid ’90s, along with the had a reputation of being one of the most fearsome jazz-fusion bands.

In an era when fusion was almost considered a bad word, the band took the teachings from Return to Forever, Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Lifetime and Brand X, modernized the sound, and along with Chick Corea’s Electrik Band and a handful of others, kept the fusion fires burning when so much of the world was enamored with the ‘smooth jazz’ format.

In late 1990′s the band began to lose a little steam, as Henderson got more and more into blues, and the rest of the members involved in a host of other side projects and solo albums. With X, Tribal Tech’s first studio album in 12 years, the classic line-up of the band has once again returned.

The band has been brought to India by Sandeep Chowta Projects.

Central Railway reserves 5 coaches for women in 15 car Mumbai local train

Mumbai: Five coaches in Central Railways 15 rake suburban local train is now reserved for women. “In view of the changing profile of suburban passengers on Central Railway, i.e. substantial addition in the number of women commuters, CR has decided to increase ladies accommodation in its 15-car rakes to five coaches,” said Subodh Jain, GM, CR, on occasion of International Women’s Day.

One 15 car rake is already running between CSTM and Kalyan. The second 15-car rake, is expected to be introduced in the near future. All the 5 ladies coaches will be in a group at Kalyan end of the rake.

On any additional 12-car services to be introduced in future, efforts will be made to increase the ladies accommodation and keep the ladies coaches together in a group, said Subodh Jain.

Central Railway also felicitated Motorwomen, Women Station Manager, Gangwomen, Lady ticket checker and Lady RPF Constable, on the occasion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Auditorium, on 8.3.2013

Mega Block on Mumbai suburban train network on Sunday 10.3.2013

Mumbai: Central Railway has announced Mega Block on its Mumbai suburban sections for carrying out maintenance work on Sunday 10.3.2013. Down fast line between Matunga and Mulund stations will operate block from 10.15 AM TO 3.15 PM.

Dn fast line services leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus from 9.37 am to 2.51 pm will be diverted on Dn slow line between Matunga and Mulund stations & will halt at all stations between Sion and Mulund during the block period.

Up fast line services will halt at Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar and Kurla in addition to their respective scheduled halts during the block period.

On up and down Harbour lines between Mankhurd and Nerul stations, the block will be operated from 11.00 AM TO 3.00 PM.

Dn Harbour line services to Panvel / Belapur / Vashi leaving Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus from 10.12 am to 2.45 pm and Up Harbour line services towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus leaving Panvel / Belapur / Vashi from 10.20 am to 3.04 pm will remain suspended.

However special local trains will run on CSTM – Mankhurd and Panvel – Thane sections during the block period. Harbour line passengers for Panvel / Belapur / Vashi are permitted to travel Via Trans Harbour Line / Main Line during the block period on 10.3.2013.

Cover over Rabale station Platform falls, disrupts Mumbai’s Transharbour line

Mumbai: Suburban rail traffic on the Transharbour line today got disrupted after the cover over Rabale station fell on the tracks.

“The work of provision of Cover Over Platform is is progress at Rabale railway station on transharbour line. A sheet forming part of the Cover Over Platform fell on Dn transharbour line at 14.23 hrs on 7.3.2013 due to heavy winds. This also resulted in damage to Over Head Wire on Up transharbour line,” stated the Central Railway release.

railways said the Suburban services on transharbour line were affected from 14.23 hrs to 16.45 hrs. Down line was restored for traffic at 15.20 hrs and Up line was restored at 16.45 hrs.

30 suburban services were cancelled due to this incident. Passengers were allowed to travel on Harbour line and Mainline during this period.
