Paes- Stepanek reach Australian open doubles final

India’s Leander Paes and his Czech partner Radek Stepanek today sailed into the finals of the Men’s Doubles category in the Australian Open Tennis tournament at Melbourne.

The Indo-Czech duo defeated the Belarusian-Canadian combine of Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the finals, Paes and Stepanek will face the top seeded Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike of the United States of America.

Meanwhile, in the Mixed Doubles section, the Indo-American pair of Rohan Bopanna and Lisa Raymond is slated to clash with the Indo-Russian tandem of Leander Paes and Elena Vesnina in the quarter finals today. Tomorrow will see Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi match against Bethanie Mattek-Sands of USA and Horia Tecau of Romania in mixed doubles.

In the Men’s Singles, second seeded Spaniard Rafael Nadal will today take on Swiss Roger Federer for a place in the finals.
