5 Cities vie to host XXXII olympics in 2020

London: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said that by the deadline of 15 February 2012, the cities of Istanbul (Turkey), Tokyo (Japan), Baku (Azerbaijan), Doha (Qatar) and Madrid (Spain) had submitted their Application Files to host the Games of the XXXII Olympiad in 2020. The Application File provides the IOC with an overview of each City’s project and is the key element in Phase 1 of the bidding procedure. Rome, which had earlier showed interest, did not figure in the list.

These files will now be studied by an IOC-appointed working group and a report made to the IOC Executive Board (EB). At its meeting in May in Quebec City, the EB will decide which cities will be accepted as Candidate Cities and proceed to phase 2 of the IOC’s bid process.

In the phase II, the cities will be Olymoic Games Observers for London 2012. London 2012 debrief will be held at Rio de Janerio In November. Submission of candidature files to IOC will happen on 7th January, 2013. February – April 2013 will see visits by IOC evaluators to the candidate cities. Finally, the election of the host city of the 2020 olympics will be decided on 7th dept, 2013, during the 125th IOC session at Buenos Aires.
