Russian North naval fleet leaves for 1st joint Russian-Venezuelan naval exercises

A group of ships from the Russian North Fleet led by the nuclear missile cruiser “Pyotr Velikiy” (Peter the Great) departed to Atlantic Ocean to take part in the first joint Russian-Venezuelan naval exercises. Russia`s airplanes is also reported to join the maneuvers.

The Russian-Venezuelan are said to practice their rescue skills and hold communication exercises. Russian Naval spokesman said that joint Russian-Venezuelan exercises had long been discussed, and are not aimed against third countries.

This comes just after the visit of U.S.S. McFaul, a Naval warship to Georgia. Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin had issued a statement that the American provocation would be met with an ‘unspecified’ Russian response.
