Russian Navy to increase training in Pacific Ocean
During this summer, the Russian Navy is going to increase its training activities not only in Atlantic, but also on the Pacific Ocean said the head of training and service of the Russian Armed Forces troops, Lieutenant-General Vladimir Shamanov.
He also said that the increase in training will be for the forces of Northern submarine fleet. He was talking to journalists during a meeting in the press club.
The Russian Northern Fleet is the home for the bulk of the Russian Navy nuclear powered vessel fleet. It includes more than 20 nuclear powered submarines capable of launching ICBM’s and cruise missiles. Russia in December 2007 had tested an ICBM from a nuclear submarine based in Norther Fleet.
