Russian-NATO command-staff exercise on missile defense theatre
The Russian-NATO command-staff exercise on missile defense theatre is scheduled to be held in Germany from 16 to 25 January 2008. The German air force exercises has organised it, previous exercise was held in October 2006 in Moscow.
During the exercises, there will be refining of the planning of interaction between Russian and NATO theatre missile defence units in the crisis response operations. There will be harmonization of procedures for the coordination of joint actions and to evaluate their effectiveness. Training will be carried out using computer simulation models, real equipment and weapons are used.
The Russian side will participate with specialist instructors from Air Force, the Army Air Defense, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Main Department of International Military Cooperation Defense Ministry of Russia. The NATO Representatives will be from the International Military Staff of the NATO air force officers and defense units of NATO member states.
The results of the exercises will be used to determine the prospects, and possible areas for further collaboration on TMD under the auspices of the NATO-Russia Council.
