Russia to send more troops to South Ossetia
As the Russian army fights with Georgia, Russia says that it is ready to send more troops and equipment to the zone of Georgian-Ossetian conflict, as peacekeepers. This was announced by the Deputy Chief of General Staff of Russian Armed Forces Colonel General Anatoly Nogovitsyn.

Upon arrival strengthening of Russian peacekeepers situation has been restored, and today most of Tskhinvali is controlled by peacekeeping forces. In addition he said that Russia Black Sea Fleet has not moved in for the destruction of Georgian ships. The Russian navy has deployed ships near Georgia’s Black Sea coast. According to a Navy spokesman in Moscow, a missile cruiser and other Russian Black Sea Fleet vessels have been deployed to the Georgian coast to help refugees streaming out of South Ossetia and to prevent any weapons supplies to the Georgian troops deployed in the breakaway republic. The spokesman strongly denied earlier reports of Russian naval ships allegedly sent in to blockade Georgia’s Black Sea coast.
Russia admitted that the losses among Russian peacekeepers have increased, but exact figures are not known yet. As explained by Colonel General A. Nogovitsyn, “there is a need in the process of fighting the identification of some remains and fragments that could belong as representatives of the Georgian side, and, unfortunately, our”.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia denied reports the Georgian side on 12 shot down Russian aircraft. “In fact nothing to do this figures (12 shot down Russian aircraft) and is not the reality. Russian President Dmitri Medvedev has instructed the General Prosecutor’s office to conduct a through investigation into crimes committed by Georgian military against the residents of South Ossetia. He made the move after his meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.
The breakaway Georgian territory of Abkhazia has come to the rescue of South Ossetia by launching a military offensive to expel Georgian troops from the upper section of its Kodori Gorge. The Georgian soldiers in the area are under Abkhaz rockets and bombs.
