Norwegian F-310 class frigate “Helge Ingstad” launched
The fourth of the five F-310 class frigates that the Fene-Ferrol Shipyard is building for the Royal Norwegian Navy was launched on Friday 23rd November. The F-313 was christened “Helge Ingstad” in honour of the famous 20th century Norwegian explorer.

The ship’s godmother was the explorer’s great grand-daughter, Kristin Ingstad Sandberg, and the ceremony was presided over by the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Jan Erik Finseth, in the company of Navantia Chairman, Juan Pedro Gómez Jaén and Admiral Morten Jacobsen from Noruegian Defence Logistics. The Spanish Navy was represented by the Zone Admiral and by the Admiral in charge of Naval Buildings, José Manuel Sanjurjo Jul.
This frigate, whose keel was laid in April last year, has been launched with a slightly higher degree of completion than her earlier sister ships. Approximately 75% of the ship has already been completed and she is expected to be delivered in September 2008.
