Karnataka BJP’s Sleaze MLA’s resign

Bangalore: The resignations of 3 BJP MLA’s, who were found watching sleaze movie clips in the state assembly during proceedings, were accepted by the Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj today. The ministers include Minister for Cooperation Laxman Savadi, Minister for Women and Child Development C C Patil and Minister for Ports Krishna Palemar. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda had earlier today forwarded the resignation of the ministers.

The ministers later said that they have resigned as they do not want the party and the government to face embarrassment. The state’s opposition parties sought resignation of the three ministers and parts of the state also witnessed protests on Tuesday.

The opposition Congress demanded the arrest of the three ministers and asked the Assembly Speaker to suspend them. BJP said it has set an example of high moral standards and probity in public life by asking the ministers to resign. Party leader Dhananjay Kumar told press in Banglore that the party high command took this decision of asking the three ministers, to submit their resignation.

In his defense, Laxman Savadi last night said the clip showed some men dancing with a woman and then gang-raping her. The rapists were later arrested by the police and then stoned in public. The minister said that he was watching it in the context of a discussion on “rave party” (in an island off Udupi) earlier in the Legislative Council.

The ministers have asked for an investigation and said that they will come clean.
