Chilarai Express derails in Assam, 3 dead, 50 injured
By (FINN) Frontier India News Network | February 3rd, 2012 | No Comments »Guwahati: Three passengers died and 50 were injured when nine coaches of the ‘Chilarai Express’-running between New Bongaigaon and Guwahati derailed near Mirza in Kamrup district this morning. Three of the injured are stated to be critical while ten others sustained minor injuries.
The incident occurred when the train, coming from New Bongaigaon to Guwahati hit a JCB excavator in an unmanned level-crossing between Mirza and Azara railway stations in Kamrup district at around 9.00 on Friday morning. The driver and two other riders of the JCB died on the spot.
The railways has rushed rescue teams to the accident site.
