10 years imprisonment for Kiliroor sex scandal accused

Thiruvanathapuram: A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has sentenced, all the five accused in the sensational Kiliroor sex scandal case, ten years’ rigorous imprisonment. The CBI special Judge T S P Moosad passed the judgement in Thiruvanathapuram on Wednesday. The five accused includes a woman, Lata Nair. They have been proved guilty under section 376(2-G) (gang rape) 120-B (conspiracy) and also for charges of abetting the crime.

The five accused had lured a minor girl Shaari S Nair in 2004 from the parents and sexually exploited her over a period of time. The minor girl from Kiliroor village in Kottayam district was offered a role in television serials. She was sexually exploited over a period of time at different places and a number of persons. She died in a hospital in Kottayam district on November 13, 2004. The girl had died due to certain health complications which she developed after the delivery, the prosecution said. The Judge observed that the crime, abduction and gang rape has shocked the society of Kerala and the five sentenced deserve no mercy.

A seventh accused was acquitted in the case. The first accused, Omanakutty, also a woman and a relative of the victim, had turned approver in the case. The judge said she had been found guilty for abetting the crime.

All the accused are in their early to mid-thirties.
