National Speed Roller Skating Championship, 2013 to be held in Mumbai

Mumbai: The 50th edition of the National Speed Roller Skating Championship has been announced by Rajeev Patil, former Mayor of Vasai-Virar City Municipal Corporation, the man behind the project and P K Singh, President of the Skating Association of Maharashtra,

To be conducted under under the aegis of the Roller Skating Federation of India, the event will be held at Ameya Classic Sports Club’s newly constructed International standard Roller Sports Center at Yashwant Nagar, Virar (West) in Mumbai.

This is the first time in India that all events during the National Championship will held in one campus and more over on an International standard Synthetic Bank track and 425m Circuit Road built according to the latest international design, which according to P K Singh is the first of its kind in India. In another first, a circuit road will be used for a road event in India in the National Championship.

Ameya Classic Sport Club is sponsoring of the National Championships and is also providing 1 km circuit Road for the half marathon of Roller Skating in Yashwantnagar, Virar.

Last year 743 skaters had participated in the 49th National at Bangalore and this time the figure has gone up to 800, representing 800 states, among them, J&K, HP, Punjab, Chandigarh, Haryana, Uttarakhand, UP, Delhi, Rajasthan, MP, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry, Kerala and host state Maharashtra.

During the National Championship races will be held for Quads and Inline Skating. Races for Quads are 300m Time Trials, 500m, and 1000m Track races along with road races. For Inline Skating, Races will be over 300m time trial, 500m, 1000m and Track races along with Road races. There will be Elimination races for Inline Skating at the Track along with relay races, which once again is only for Inline skaters.

The Half Marathon race will also be only for Inline Skaters of 12 years and above.

For the accommodation of the outstation skaters, 50 residential premises have been arranged in Yashwantnagar and its nearby vicinity. Subsidised vegetarian food will also be provided to participants in Yashwantnagar near Bank track.

Among the 800 participants will be current International skaters who have taken part in Beach Asians Games, Asian Championship and World Championships.
