Musharraf claims $10 billion given by US to Pakistan for fighting terror was a miniscule amount

On Jan. 16 Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan’s former dictator, unsuccessfully defended his country’s record on combating terrorism in a lecture at Memorial Auditorium. Musharraf’s appearance was co-sponsored by the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies.
Musharraf claimed that Pakistan hasn’t received enough financial support or international credit in its fight against groups like al-Qaida and the Taliban.
Musharraf, who was forced to resigned his post in August under the threat of impeachment, was defensive about the money Pakistan received under his watch from Western countries in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. He said the $10 billion contributed by the United States was a miniscule amount compared to the funds given to Afghanistan and Iraq.
“There is no misuse of these funds,” he claimed. “They are utilized. This is pittance for a country which is in the lead role to fight terrorism. We must get much more.” The US accused Pakistan for not doing enough on terror despite the money payed. US also accused Pakistan for overcharging and fudging records. At the same time, Afghanistan and Iraq have not been accused of such malpractices.
Fresh accusations that Pakistan is a safe haven for terrorists came after an attack late last year in India that left hundreds dead and injured. Indian authorities blame Lashkar-e-Taiba, a Pakistan-based militant group, for carrying out the mission.
“Why should we believe anything you said,” one student, who said he was from India, asked after ticking off a litany of accusations against Musharraf ranging from political corruption to assisting terrorists.
Why anyone should pay Pakistan any money to fight terrorists. Pakistan created them and released them on the world. Thus world should demand Pakistan to clear the mess it created or face the consequences (Economic sanctions, declair as terroist country, bomb the terrorist training camps, etc.,). Instead we are paying them and they are demanding more. Are we sure the funds are not diverted to train and arm terrorists?

In my opinion, the Kashmir issue does not exist. Its just a excuse used by the Pakistani government and Citizens to milk money.
I feel that Pakistan should re-orient its money making opportunities away from militancy and to some real world business.

them what are they doing in kashmir . India is not a democracy . they have occupied kashmir by force . You talk about pakistan .See what we did in East Pakistan .They wanted separation .
We gave them a separation . and the kashmir or any other group of peaple who wanted liberation will get it .
And For all people taliban were used by the americans to fight russians and after war they
abandoned the afghans . America didnt finance the afghan economy to stabalise .
Now americans are in afghanistan so taliban is
fighting them . They are not against pakistan .
On the other hand India is also financing
anti pakistan and anti american groups on
afghan border to destabalise pakistan ,which
is also hurting war on terror .
so americans should also counter India to stop
doing this which is hurting their soldiers in
afghanistan .
Last but not least taliban’s war is anti american so why not they should give pakistan
money to fight it .
And why fight any one .america and the whole
world should give their alms and setup food and shelter centers in afganistan near pakistan border so that 3 million afgans can go to their home who are in pakistan since 20 years .
By good faith and providing food to the peaple
of afghanistan you can achive peace and end war on terror in afganisn

1) What is happening in Kashmir? What connection it has with Indian democracy? Please let us know. we do not understand what you want to say.
2) East Pakistan was liberated. Pakistani Army raped 90,000 women there and made a mess. Can you show me the proof that you Pakistanis gave freedom to Bangladesh?
3) Americans gave money to Afghan nationals to fight, Pakistan made the Talebans, not America.
4) Can you show the proof that India is financing anti-Pakistan and anti- American forces? If someone is hurting soldiers in Afghanistan, its Pakistan which is doing it.
5) If Talibans war is anti-american, what are they doing in Lahore and other places in Pakistan?
6) By good faith, pakistan should not interfere in Afghanistan’s affairs and pakistan should stop terrorism.
It is very diheartining to hear that someone here commenting that India is sponsoring “anti pakistan and anti amrican ” groups. It is totally baseless and without proof. I respect the integrity of other countries , but this is highly disgusting to throw away such ill placed comments.
India is a country either in the past , present and in Future never attacked/will never attack any foreign nation unless to defend it’s integrity.
And how can one call India is not a democracy – It is largest democracy on earth.
And if one doesn’t know about Kashmir and East bengal issues i request them to read history and then comment – it is India which helped Bangladesh to get Independence..
