Leningrad Naval base turns 89 on 15 march, 2008
Russian Leningrad Military Marine base was established in 1919. As per Order № 117 from March 15, 1919 onwards the Baltic Sea Fleet Marine Force Petrograd were transformed into Petrogradskaya Marine Base. At present, the Leningrad Military Marine base is part of the Baltic Fleet and provides maritime defense of St. Petersburg, construction, repairs, training of crews, the testing of new vessels.
In addition, LenVMB is responsible for the training of cadets on ships. The Navy provides technical and logistical support and military daily activities and parts of Navy ships based in the city of St. Petersburg and Kronstadt.
Leningrad Military Nautical base at different times was led by prominent officers: Admiral Arkady Mikhailovsky, Valentin Selivanov, Vladimir Samoilov, Vladimir Chernov, Vice-Admiral Alexander Kornilov, Vladimir Kudryavtsev. At present, the commander of the Leningrad Naval base is Vice-Admiral Anatoly Lipinsky.
