This is the first international version of the radar.
The APY-10 radar provides information in all weather conditions both day and night for surveillance, reconnaissance and intelligence missions and anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare. In order to meet the specific requirements of the Indian Navy, the company said that it has added an extra feature, which is the air-to-air mode. This mode helps in tracking and detecting airborne targets and enables customers to track targets in air and sea. The cockpit has been enhanced with an integrated weather and search capability so that the latest weather information can be provided during surveillance missions.
The APY-10 radar weighs less, consumes lesser power and has reduced average mean time between deployment and failure as compared to the earlier versions of the radar. The radar has been designed in such a manner that it can accommodate additional features in the future. As per the contract, Raytheon will provide eight APY-10 radars for the Indian Navy.
On June 2011, Boeing had begun the final assembly of the Indian navy’s first P-8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft this month at the company’s Renton factory. he contract for procurement of eight P-8I aircraft, with an option for four additional aircraft, was signed on Jan. 1, 2009.
Chako, make a small correction.
It is P-8I and NOT P-8(1). The error portion is enclosed in brackets.
