Indian MoD hits back at false reports says “Indian missile program completed, not scrapped”
The Indian Ministry of Defence has hit back on some section of media carrying misleading information on the “Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).
They clarified that “Except for Agni demonstrator, which was successfully completed in 1989, all other projects under IGMDP are related to Tactical Missiles such as anti-tank Nag, short range Trishul, medium range Akash and Prithvi for artillery role with conventional warheads. All these missiles have since been developed. All are entering Service in one form or other. With this, objectives of IGMDP originally envisaged stand completed.”
It further states that “Strategic Missile Program is entirely indigenous and is being pursued through a number of separate projects. All of them are progressing as per schedule and no Strategic System has been scrapped.”
Some section of the media has been reporting “unconfirmed” and “unnamed” sources for reporting imaginary troubles with indigenous equipment research or production.
A section of retired Indian armed forces personnel have taken up agency or joined agencies to peddle foreign arms equipment into India. All the high value projects like Arjun Tanks, Light Combat Aircraft, Missile projects initiated by India have come under the attacks by some section of these personnel who masquerade as “unnammed source” for earning a commission.
India Army has all major ticket import items like helicopters, tanks etc. under Central Vigilance Committee (CVC) scanner, which keeps on a eye over corruption. Some Indian Air Force deals are in CVC scanner too. Indian Navy deals not withstanding Scorpene Submarine has the best record in indigenous equipment use. Indian Army and India Air Force needs to do better in promoting officer like qualities in its serving and retired officer cadre.
