Indian Air force has implemented a new accounting software Equipment Accounting On Line System (EQUOLS). The Indian Air Force holds a diverse fleet of aircraft, radars and various other associated equipment. An automated IT based material management system was required to account for the IAF’s inventory and stores. The IAF’s Accounts branch alongwith Tata Consultancy Services have developed a material management system based on Information Technology called the ‘EQUOLS’. Before implementing the EQUOLS, all transactions were being done manually using vouchers, manual stock record cards etc and was a tedious and cumbersome forces.

The EQUOLS system would be advantageous from the point of view of transparent, accurate, faster transactions at the same time providing for online auditing and provisioning of realistic future demands. Tata Consultancy Service is the strategic partner in this project.

The ‘EQUOLS’ has been implemented in two phases namely the pilots site and sense phase site. The initial implementation was at 27 pilot sites and thereafter the application was installed at remaining sites. So far, over 17.5 million entries have been transfered from manual records to the EQUOLS application. This task was achieved over last six months. The transferred data has been subjected to a very thorough scrutiny by the staff of Defence Accounts Department.
