IDSA celebrates its 42ND foundation day

The Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA) celebrated its 42nd Foundation Day on Nov 10, 2007. The highlights was an address by Vice President Shri Hamid Ansari on the subject, “Emerging Foreign Policy and Security Challenges for India.” External Affairs Minister, who is also the President of IDSA, presided over the meeting. Guest of Honour Defence Minister who also addressed the gathering.
This year’s function assumes significance as the IDSA conferred the 1st K Subrahmanyam Award on Smt. Sudha Mahalingam, an Energy Specialist and a distinguished scholar of International Affairs. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-. The Award has been instituted in recognition of the services of Shri K Subrahmanyam, one of the country’s foremost Strategic Expert and former Director of IDSA. Selected writings of Smt Mahalingam and a special issue of IDSA’s journal ‘Strategic Analysis on Energy’ was distributed during the function. A new journal called the Journal of Defence Studies, the Asian Strategic Review 2007 and a new journal on Chemical and Biological Warfare was also launched.
