Kasaragod: The Strategic Electronics Factory of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) was inaugurated at Kasaragod in Kerala today by Defence Minister AK Antony. The facility is designed to produce advanced avionics and complex electronic components for military aircraft’s. The production facilities at the factory were inaugurated by Oommen Chandy, Chief Minister of Kerala. The Defence Minister said that the facilities of HAL would be further expanded in the coming months.
The first phase of the factory was set up at a cost of Rs 66 Crores, after Kerala Government allotted 196 acres of land at the Kerala State Infrastructure Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA) Park at Seethangoli, Kasaragod. Production of airborne mission computers, display processors, radar computers and other electronics for SU-30, fighter aircraft and Light Combat Aircraft, has been taken up at the factory.
In the second phase plans are afoot to produce avionics like radars, Electronic Warfare Suites, communication, and navigation equipment for the Medium Multirole Combat Aircraft (MMRCA). The facility would also participate in the fruition of future projects like Fifth Generation Fighter Aircraft (FGFA), Multirole Transport Aircraft (MTA), Light Utility helicopters (LUH), Light Combat Helicopters (LCH), Medium Lift Helicopters (MLH) and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAV).
