Defence Information Technology Consultative Committee (DITCC) met for the first time in New Delhi today. The meeting was organised by HQ Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) for the easy and joint interaction between Armed Forces, Academia, Industry and Govt Officials in the area of Information Technology. HQ IDS being a Tri Services organization, is been tasked to synergies the efforts put in individually by three arms so as to harness the maximum potential and march towards more integrated approach.

The quantum jump in the IT and its entry into every discipline of science and technology has a strong influence in the future war fighting capability of a nation state. Fortunately India is a world leader in this technology and it is pertinent to leverage this strength to enhance our defence capability. The three services have been independently developing their capability to augment their operational, logistic, administrative and management functions. This developmental process is further expected to grow exponentially necessitating phenomenal budget support. These efforts, however, need to be synergised for effective capability building and optimum utilisation of resources taking benefit of the commonality among the three forces, MoD and its other departments.

It is perceived that in order to achieve synergy amongst the three services and to derive maximum benefits from the technology it is imperative that the correct advice and direction be provided to the conceived plans. Towards this end the Ministry of Defence has decided to formulate a Defence IT Consultative Committee comprising members from the three Services, DRDO, Industry and Academia under the Chairmanship of the Chief of Integrated Staff Committee (CISC), HQ IDS.

DITCC being advisory in nature will help Armed Forces in synchronizing the efforts with the rapidly changing Information and Communication Technologies.
