New Delhi: The 23 year old girl, who was gang raped and battered on December 16 night, died after 13 days of battling for her life. The girl died at 4:45 AM Singapore time / 2:15 AM Indian time), said Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore where she was admitted. The hospital chief executive officer Dr Kelvin Loh said: “We are very sad to report that the patient passed away peacefully at 4.45 AM on 29 Dec 2012 (Singapore time). Her family and officials from the High Commission of India were by her side. The Mount Elizabeth Hospital team of doctors, nurses and staff join her family in mourning her loss,” Dr Loh added.In the Friday evening bulletin, Dr Kelvin Loh had said that the victim has been put on maximum artificial ventilation support. The victim had shown signs of multiple organ failure. Dr. Loh said the patient was struggling against the odds and fighting for her life. He hadsaid that her family members have been informed and they are by her bed side.
“I am deeply saddened to learn that the unfortunate victim of the brutal assault that took place on December 16 in New Delhi has succumbed to the grievous injuries she suffered following that attack. I join the nation in conveying to her family and friends my deepest condolences at this terrible loss,” said Prime Minister Dr Manmohan singh.
PM Singh, who has already let the nation down for past 8 years including going back on his Lokpal Bill promises, claimed “The need of the hour is a dispassionate debate and inquiry into the critical changes that are required in societal attitudes. Government is examining, on priority basis, the penal provisions that exist for such crimes and measures to enhance the safety and security of women.”
The Delhi police has already been put on high alert. Indian gate, Rajpath and Parliament entry has been barricaded. 10 metro Stations in India gate Vicinity has been sealed.
An Indian Plane is expected to arrive in Singapore to take the victims body by 3 Pm to 4 Pm in the afternoon today said T.C.A. Raghavan, the Indian High Commissioner to Singapore.
