Commander, Lesotho Defence Forces on a India visit
Lieutenant General ET Motanyane, Commander, Lesotho Defence Forces, is visiting India from 07 Oct to 12 Oct 07. The visit assumes special significance in the light of enhanced defence cooperation between India and Lesotho.
India has maintained good relations with Lesotho. Defence cooperation, as a part of defence diplomacy, has been an important tool towards enhancing this friendship.
The defence cooperation between the two countries got a boost after signing of a MoU on Establishment of Training Team in 2001. Since then, the Indian Army Training Team is providing quality training to Lesotho Defence Forces and also provides valuable advice to them on various security related issues. Consequently, cooperation between the two armies has enhanced in the field of attendance on courses, exchange of observers in exercises and visits.
Lieutenant General ET Motanyane and his four member delegation will be visiting Northern Command and various Army training establishments. The delegation will be interacting with the COAS, the Defence Secretary and various other dignitaries. Discussions on enhancing defence cooperation in the fields of training/courses, sports and adventure activities are likely during this visit.
