AgustaWestland signed a contract to supply 18 AW139 medium twin helicopters to the Qatar Armed
Forces. These aircraft will be operated by the Qatar Emiri Air Force supporting various Government
Agencies to perform several roles including utility, troop transport, search and rescue, border patrol,
special forces operations, law enforcement and homeland security duties. The contract value is about
260 million Euro and includes crews training and initial spares package.
This contract marks the continued success of the AW139 in the Middle East market with over 100
units purchased in the region. This order increases the sales total to more than 370 helicopters
ordered by over 100 customers in nearly 40 countries.

Boeing and the government of Qatar signed an agreement on July 21 for the purchase of the C-17 Globemaster III airlifter to provide new strategic-airlift mobility capabilities for the Qatar Armed Forces (QAF). Qatar will sign a Foreign Military Sales agreement for contractor logistics support with the U.S. Air Force. Boeing will begin deliveries from its Long Beach, Calif., C-17 factory, in summer 2009.
“The QAF is very pleased to be acquiring C-17s,” said H.E. Maj. Gen. Hamad bin Ali Al-Attiyah, chief of staff, Qatar Armed Forces. “The C-17 Globemaster III is a world-class strategic and tactical airlifter that has proven itself repeatedly around the world. This agreement marks a new era in Qatar’s ability to provide strategic airlift in support of our military and humanitarian operations.”

Northrop Grumman Corporation has begun production of the fuselage section for the first F/A-18F Super Hornet for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). Mechanics loaded the aircraft’s first bulkhead components into place July 10 on Northrop Grumman’s state-of-the-art F/A-18 assembly line in El Segundo. The government of Australia is purchasing 24 F/A-18Fs from the United States in the first international procurement of the Super Hornet. The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is already in service with the U.S. Navy as its combat-proven strike fighter.
As principal subcontractor to The Boeing Company, Northrop Grumman is responsible for design and production of the F/A-18E/F’s center/aft fuselage section and twin vertical tails, integration of all associated subsystems and after-delivery product support. (The “E” model has one cockpit seat; the “F” has two.) Northrop Grumman has delivered more than 1,800 of these fuselage “shipsets.”

Raytheon Company has received a $156 million Foreign Military Sales award from the U.S. Army to provide the State of Kuwait with Patriot Configuration-3 radar upgrade kits and related engineering and technical services.
The award for Kuwait Patriot upgrade kits follows recent company announcements of contracts totaling $269 million to provide South Korea command and control, communications, and maintenance support and training equipment for its Patriot air and missile defense system. The Kuwait Patriot Upgrade award includes upgrades and support consistent with the U.S. Army’s “Pure Fleet” initiative.

The Government of Israel, this morning (Tuesday), 15 July 2008, decided to ratify its decision of 29 June 2008 on the release of abducted soldiers Eldad Regev and Ehud Goldwasser, in accordance with the parameters specified in the decision.

The Boeing Company has completed a major communications upgrade on the first of five Saudi E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft as part of a $49.2 million contract.
Installation and checkout of the aircraft were performed at the Boeing Military Flight Center in Seattle. The enhancement, known as Link 16, is a secure, jam-resistant, digital data link that allows military aircraft, ships and ground units to exchange tactical pictures in near real time. Link 16 also supports the exchange of text messages and imagery data and provides additional channels for digital voice.

Commander of IRGC Airforce Brigadier General Hossein Salami said on Wednesday that the IRGC missiles have been loaded on launching pads and are ready to target enemies at any time. As per the IRNA report, IRGC’s Public Relations Office, the commander made the remarks during military war games code-named ‘Great Prophet (PBUH)’ on Wednesday where a number of long-range and middle-range missiles were test-fired at hypothetical enemies positions. During the military maneuver, the IRGC test fired various ground to ground, middle and long range missiles named Shahab, Fath and Zelzal. Military experts say that the missiles can be used under various climatic conditions.

The Minister for Defence, announced today that over $1.1 billion worth of Defence facilities proposals have received Parliamentary approval.
The proposals include $623.28m for the Hardened and Networked Army facilities at Edinburgh, South Australia. The project includes working accommodation, training facilities, a driver training area, a vehicle wash point and common user facilities for both Army and RAAF including health, messing, fitness and community facilities as well as extensive site infrastructure works. Construction is planned to commence in late 2008 and be completed by 2011.

Australian MoD announced today that Australia’s air capability has been further enhanced by the successful trialling of a new radar warning receiver and acceptance by Air Force of the Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) ‘Smart Bomb’.
The first production configured F/A-18 Hornet fitted with a new Radar Warning Receiver has successfully flown at RAAF Williamtown, only 18 months after the decision to acquire the equipment.
As part of the Hornet upgrade program, Australia’s fleet of F/A-18 aircraft are being fitted with Raytheon ALR-67(V)3 Radar Warning Receiver, countermeasures systems and radar jamming systems.

The Australian Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) successfully test fired the new MU90 Lightweight Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Torpedo late last week.
The test firing was from HMAS TOOWOOMBA at sea in the Western Australian Exercise Area approximately 30 kilometres off Mandurah in Western Australia was a milestone for the DMO’s Joint Project 2070, Project Djimindi – Replacement Lightweight ASW Torpedo.

Elbit Systems Ltd. and Lockheed Martin inaugurated the avionics simulation system delivered to the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMOD) for the Israel Air Force (IAF) F-16I Sufa aircrew flight and system trainer. The simulator is fully compatible with the aircraft avionics and cockpit. Elbit Systems additionally supplied an advanced simulating system to enable the IAF pilots Out-of-Cockpit world view for full training in different air conditions in both day and nighttime. The systems were delivered to the full satisfaction of the IAF and the Israeli Ministry of Defense, within the planned timeframe.
In 2005, Elbit Systems supplied an advanced simulation system for the F-16A Netz and has already received a follow-on order for the development of a simulation system for the F-16B Barak.
