To safeguard India from the asymmetric threat of international terrorism, most recently seen in Mumbai in November, the Indian Government is readdressing its internal security strategy, markedly increasing the budget allocation and fast tracking procurements of homeland security and defence systems.

It is within this climate that the second edition of the INDESEC Expo series will take place in New Delhi between 21 – 23 October 2009. INDESEC is the only exhibition and conference held in India integrating the homeland security and defence sectors with a key focus on homeland & border security, network centric operations and maritime security. The event will be held at Pragati Maidan, Central Delhi, to make the event easily accessible for Government visitors.

Asia-Pacific’s largest and most comprehensive homeland security and counter terrorism Conference and Exhibition, Global Security Asia 2009 (GSA 2009), will be held in Singapore from 17th to 19th March. The event will showcase the latest thinking and state-of-the-art technologies that are being developed to counter the sophistication of the ever increasing number of threats. GSA 2009, which is hosted by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), involves international delegations, experts and speakers from governments, academia, research and the homeland security industry, representing more than 20 countries, spread across 5 continents.

As part of the event, the Ministry of Home Affairs will host an inter-ministerial and inter-agency delegation from the US, Australia, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Indonesia, and many others. According to Andrew Marriott, Managing Director, GSA Exhibitions, “This event serves as the ideal platform for the governments to share information, expertise and increase cooperation and ultimately encourage inter-governmental agency cooperation during a time of global economic crisis. It is imperative that during a time of economic turmoil, vigilance of homeland defence and security cannot let up”.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati signed a contract worth 230 million Euro with the Gendarmerie Nationale Algérienne to provide a Large System for Homeland security. This agreement, is one of the most important ever subscribed by a Finmeccanica Company for the sale of Large Systems in the Homeland Security domain. SELEX Sistemi Integrati, together with other two Finmeccanica companies, SELEX Communications and Elsag Datamat, will provide equipments for surveillance and security and control, supported by a communications network able to integrate different technologies and services. The system is made of a flexible, open and modular command and control architecture, working through operational centres at regional and intermediate level, and of 250 local control centres, all over the interested areas. The whole system is also completed by mobile command posts.

The supply, in which SELEX Sistemi Integrati plays a major role as prime contractor, will be delivered within 30 months from the contract signature. The system will cover the Southern territory of Algeria.
