Vijay Joshi – Director MRPL Refinery

A post graduate from IIT, Mumbai in Metallurgical Engineering, Joshi joined Indian Oil Corporation Ltd as a Graduate Engineering Trainee in 1977 and opted to join MRPL as Chief Inspector 20 years back.

Joshi’s hands-on management saw him set up the Engineering and Documentation Departments in MRPL and subsequently without any Project Management Consultant, Joshi also led his team to build and commission ISOM and Mixed Xylene Units in the 2004-2006 period.

His stint at the ITC has given him the opportunity to work in cities across the country like New Delhi, Agra, Bangalore, Chennai, Port Blair, Vishakhapatnam and Hyderabad. During the course of his career, he has also catered to various Heads of State and Government leaders.

Arooran has a hotel management degree from IHM, Taramani, Chennai in 1982 and has also successfully completed a level four certification course on hygiene and sanitation conducted by the prestigious FIEH.

The bus driver hanged himself with his own clothes, alleged prison officials. He died at 5 Am and his body has been sent to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for postmortem. ​

Ram Singh, 33, was the driver and was among the 6 accused in the gang-rape and battering of a 23-year-old Delhi girl in a moving bus. Ram Singh had refused identification parade.

Being a rape case, the accused were beaten up in Tihar Jail by the fellow inmates. Rape accused are known to have an harrowing time in jails.

Dr. Thamban obtained masters degree in Marine Geology from the Cochin University of Science and Technology, and completed his PhD at the National Institute of Oceanography, Goa. He was instrumental in establishing India’s first Ice Core Laboratory with world class facilities for snow and ice studies at Goa.

Currently he leads a research team in the field of snow and ice studies with a focus on climate change. Thamban has been part various and national expeditions to Antarctica, Arctic, as Himalayas, including the first Indian scientific expedition to South Pole in 2010. Thamban has published 43 research publications in leading international and national peer-reviewed journals. He is also part of various international and national research programmes and scientific bodies.

“The surfacing of fresh evidence in the Suryanelli gangrape case concerning the involvement of P.J.Kurien comes in the background of the Supreme Court orders annulling the acquittal of 35 men by the Kerala High Court in 2005 and ordering a reexamination of the case. It should be noted that Kurien had got the benefit of this flawed judgement of the High Court when his petition not to be included as one of the accused was accepted by the High Court and Supreme Court in 2007,” said CPM statement.

Rejecting the charge of political motivation, CPM said the Congress leadership should view this matter in the proper perspective. “This is not an issue being raised for party-political purposes. The whole country is seriously concerned and agitated about the alarming rise in sexual crimes against women. Parliament is to discuss laws concerning sexual violence against women. At such a juncture, when a rape victim has leveled a serious charge against P J Kurien and fresh evidence has come to light, will it be proper for him to continue in the post of Dy. Chairman of the Rajya Sabha? It becomes incumbent for him to resign. If not, he should be removed from the post of Deputy Chairman,” the statement said.

The party accused the Kerala Government for adopting double standards by not ordering a re-investigation into the case against Kurien. The legal opinion report submitted by the State Public Prosecutor states that the victim was repeating the charge which she earlier raised and there was nothing in her new that warranted a re-investigation. “Only recently it had ordered re-investigation into two cases of murder dating back decades, which had been decided through the judicial process including, in one of the cases, upto the Supreme Court,” added the CPM statement.

He also served as the director of SSSIHMS, Whitefield, Bangalore in its initial years. During Dr.Safaya’s tenure SSSIHMS, Prasanthigram saw an all-round development and established itself as an institution par excellance. Four specialities viz Cardiology, Urology, Opthalmology and Orthopaedics were added during his tenure. He was also instrumental in organising three international Cardiac Conferences and three international Orthopaedic Conferences in the hospital.

Prior to joining the institution, Dr.Safaya had served as the Medical Superintendent of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi for 16 years and was the founder president of the Association of Hospital Administration. He was also the Vice President of the National Board of Examinations, Government of India from 1990 to 1992.

Dr.Safaya was born on October 2,1932 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. He completed MBBS from Agra University and took his MD degree from the University of Kashmir in 1964.
