The Accelerated User Cum Reliability Test (AUCRT) of Indian Army’s preparedness with Arjun tank is already over. On the tank’s part, the DRDO ensured the text book performance. The Arjun Tank performed in the searing heat of Rajasthan sands. The transmission gear which created a temporary hitch the winter trials, performed smoothly.
The trials are for checking the Indian Army’s preparation for inducting Arjun Tank and not judging the tank itself. However, the Indian Army projects that it’s more of Arjun Tank evaluation and not about Army’s preparedness.

Minister of State Defence Production Rao Inderjit Singh revealed in the parliament that the government is closely monitoring the Arjun Tank AUCRT trials. This comes shortly after the talk of sabotage of Arjun Tanks during the winter trials. As per an unbelievable Indian Army report to parliament showed defects in Arjun Tank that virtually means that the entire tank is faulty. This led to the assumption that sabotage is suspected.
As per the Army the defects are Failure of power packs, Low accuracy and consistency, Failure of Hydropneumatic Suspension Units, Shearing of Top Rollers, Chipping of Gun Barrels. If there is a sabotage from within the army and this kind of report was presented to the parliament, it means some one bit more than he can chew. For example the engine failure claim has not been believed by any one and the cause was said to be the gear box.

Last year, Combat Vehicle Research Development Establishment (CVRDE, a unit of Defence Research and Development Organisation) was ready for a comparative trial between Indian Army’s imported T-90S and the license produced T-72 versus the home grown Arjun Tank as asked by army. The Indian Army officials realizing that the national media is scrutinizing the tanks performance, pulled out of the trials and went for a “accelerated usage cum reliability trial” (AUCRT).
