Arnold Schwarzenegger grants clemency to Sara Kruzan

Arnold Schwarzenegger has finally granted clemency to Sara Jessimy Kruzan. Kruzan who at 16 ambushed and killed her former pimp George Gilbert Howard in a Southern California motel room. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is in his last full day in office.

Kruzan was born to an unwed mother who was unsure of keeping her. Kruzan in her petition recounts :

I endured mental and physical abuse from my mother at a very early age. I also was sexually abused by many people. This includes George Howard, who first sexually assaulted me when I was eleven years old and who began sexually trafficking me when I was thirteen years old.

This continued until I was 16 years old. I was two months past my sixteenth birthday when I shot and killed George.

Kruzan is now 32. She was sentenced to life in prison in 1994. She had no payroll option. Arnold called her life sentence as excessive. She was 11 when Howard molested her and forced her to prostitute herself when she was 13. Her sentence was Life Without Possibility of Parole with a four-year enhancement. Her conviction was Commitment Offense First degree murder (PC 187) with special circumstances (lying in wait (PC 190.2(a)) and murder while engaged In robbery (PC 190.2(c)(l7)(i»), and an enhancement for personal use of a firearm (PC 12022.5(a).

    I wonder why they keep saying “for killing her pimp”, when anyone who knows this story knows that GG was NOT her pimp when she killed him, and she had long been the girl of a whole different person. She killed him in a robbery attempt that the man she was with at the time asked her to pull off. I don’t condone him pimping on her as a child, but she was in absolutely NO danger from him at the time she MURDERED him. It was NOT self defense, and she had even asked him on several occasions if he would take her back, and he refused to. This is not small talk, I happen to be related to him and I follow this story very closely as much as I can, and while I admit a life sentence for a minor is too harsh, I think people should realise that he was not the monster he was painted to be. This girls mother practically sold her to him, and yes him pimping her is terribly wrong, he was not abusive, she was never put on drugs, GG himself was not a drug addict. He was a pimp, flashy clothes, flashy cars, but not abusive. She killed him in cold blood, more from bitterness and jealousy than maybe anything else. Even the drug dealer boyfriend/pimp she was with at the time had no idea she would kill him. I’m glad she had her sentence reduced, but I believe she deserved every single day of the sentence that she has done.

    Um, no. Not the monster he has been painted to be? Are you absolutely insane? He raped a girl at thirteen and then made her work as a sex slave. He is every bit that monster, even if she was “no longer his” when she killed him. That a teenage girl was “his” at all reveals him to be that monster. I agree with the person above–you don’t understand what it means to be abused, especially as a child, when your mind and sense of identity are still malleable and particularly vulnerable. This girl was not only abused by the man she killed, but kidnapped and forced to endure abuse by others. Surely you can understand how damaging that is to a teenage mind. Now imagine you are, essentially, a teenage sex slave and your pimp has ordered you to kill your ex-pimp. Can you even imagine being in that situation? Try some empathy on for size.

    Yes, I can’t imagine how we will live without another pimp in the world. We are all suffering the loss of a child-rapist. Please. I’ve written off family for far less crimes and to see a woman defend a rapist simply because he’s family and he hadn’t raped anyone lately is so absurd and pathetic it makes me sick.     This young lady never recieved the attention or opportunity that is due to any child living in the US. Food, clothing, shelter are the first of these. What about education? This child, her mother and most likely her whole lineage has been treated as refuse by the “We” for sometime. It’s time that citizens, 99% of the population stand up to these atrocities. Privatized prisons! Hell someone makes money for longer jail terms and more severe punishment for offenders. Our country is the leader in the free world for no possibility of rehabilitation. “We” make money for repeat offenders! Now they are “striking out” laws! I read, no drugs, didn’t beat her, was good to his girls! The mind is a terrible thing to waste. As an American, stand up and vote “No More”.

    I recently watched an interview with Ms. Kruzan, and it made me sick to my stomach to think a judge could look a 16 year old child in her eyes and tell her that she had no “moral scruples” because she killed a man who had been abusing her for five years. This was a baby, who had endured, and endured and couldn’t take it anymore. She never got a chance to live, she showed at a young age through her academic achievements that she was a special child despite having a drug addict mother. Yet and still, they gave her life without the possibility of parole, plus an extra four years. i believe in justice, but where was the justice for her. 17 years later where is her justice. she is not a criminal, that is obvious. But we as Americans allow sex offenders to go to jail for 5 year max, register so they can be monitored and then attack again, and that is acceptable?

    I have read the comments here, and I ride the fence but only on one particular thing. REGARDLESS of his relationship to her at the time of his death, he was still responsible for the anguish she had to endure during her childhood. I understand that if this man is a family member, that you mourn and you cannot see things for what they are, or maybe you do and it is hard to admit that a person you love could have been so horrible. I dig that. But this man was a monster because no man should look at a child and be okay with molesting her over and over and over again. Period. Now where I ride the fence is if she was there to rob him for someone else and then killed him, that is a different outlook. That doesn’t change the fact that a 16 year old child who has been mentally and physically abused cracked under pressure. I don’t care if she was there to have dinner with an old friend. He was a man who had harmed her and at that moment she had the ability to stop him from ever doing that to anyone else’s life. Life in prison was an absurd ruling! Period! That now 32 year old woman has spent more then half her life behind bars, and spent her entire life trying to live!

    I think the justice system failed in this case. If she had been tried as an adult she would have had a jury trial and If I was on that jury the most I would have given her would have been 5 years if that I the youth authority only so she could get help dealing with what this monster did to this young child.

    What if she was 18 or 20 when he started pimping her and there was no force? I think most people would still feel it is OK for any prostitute even an adult prostitute to kill her pimp. I don’t agree with that. What if she was not a minor and worked for Hugh Hefner of Playboy posing nude and having sex with celebrities at the Playboy mansion or had sex for money at the legal Bunny Ranch in Nevada owned by legal pimp Dennis Hof. If she would have killed and robbed Dennis Hof or Hugh Hefner and she started working for them as an adult people would feel different and want to hang her.. She shot him to death in cold blood in his sleep but because of the mitigating circumstances I think a sealed juvenile involuntary manslaughter or robbery conviction and 4 or 5 years in a soft minimum security facility or halfway house with counseling would have been enough. She could have been out by the time she was 21 with her High Diploma may-be even a college degree. The sentence she got was cruel and excessive due to the mitigating circumstances. If she was an adult when she met Howard and killed him then that would be a different story and she would have deserved a hefty sentence. She she should be released immediately!

    My heart goes out to you Sara, it wasnt your fault for feeling the way you did at the time of doing this crime. You excelled in school and did well in that area, your mom was a drug user and abuser then, you had to endure pain and suffering from others in an unexplainable way, how sad it must have been for you to go threw this. Being put on the streets at the age of 13 is just sickening to hear. You didnt deserve life behind bars and Im glad you dont have to suffer anymore, you now have a chance to do right and try again, put everything behind you and live life the best way you can.     This young girl at the time was highly manipulated, conned, and mentally as well as physically abused. Sara Kruzan was never given the chance to be a child. Who in there right state of mind would sell a child and who in there right mind would buy a child? How can anyone condone to the buying or selling of a child. I don’t care if he was her pimp at the time or not, Sara life was temporarily destroyed and I say temporarily because she’s trying her hardest to bounce back.
