The production line of the India’s own Main Battle Tank “Arjun” will see a idle time for around 30 months. As we reported in August, that around 85 tanks have been already delivered to Indian Army. Currently the production is at its fag end for the initial 124 tank order. The issue lies in delayed ordering. The Defence Acquisition Committee (DAC) had finalised the order for the next batch of 124 tanks around June 2010. As per DRDO, the lead time for production of the next batch is 30 months.
DRDO says that the delay is in production is unavoidable due to delayed ordering.
The production order for next lot of Arjun Tank is not specific to Mk2. DRDO says that it made the decision to deliver Mark 2 tanks to the Indian Army. As per DRDO, the Phase one trials of Mark 2 Arjun Tanks are scheduled for June 2011 and the Phase two trials are scheduled for June 2012.
The production of the next lot of 124 tanks may be contigent on the results of the Phase one, two trials. As per DRDO, if the trials go well, the production can restart in mid 2013 and all the deliveries can be made 30 months.

Chacko, no offense but your sub-editor missed these.
DRDO says that it was it’s descision to deliver Mark 2 tanks to the Indian Army.
“DRDO says that it made the decision to deliver Mark 2 tanks to the Indian Army.”
The production of next 124 lot may be contigent to the results of the phase one and two trials.
“The production of the next lot of 124 tanks may be contigent on the results of the Phase one, two trials.”
It is my mistake :) I typed it out in a hurry. Thanks Nukkad Editor. You are welcome when it comes to improving.

This is confusing. Why is the production of the next 124 tanks (which are still Mark-1) be contingent on the 2 phase trials of Mark-2 tanks? I thought 248 (124 X 2) Arjun Mk-1 tanks were ordered and no order is yet placed on Mk-2. While first lot of 124 Mk-1 are near completion, the second lot (of 124 Mk-1) will have an idle time because of delayed order by Army (which was known then), due to material procurement, which was at that time told by DRDO chief would take 3 years.
May be the army is NOT satisfied with the delivered MK1
As I understand, DRDO is taking the opportunity of 30 months idle time to push through mak 2. It is a good move. Hope Army does not drag the trials to death.
ya army decision makers seem to be not satisfied with the money they already ate from foreign deals.
Gagan !!
I am sure Army is very much satisfied with Tin Cans (T90s) LOL
I never understand why our all defence projects are under construction.
LCA – Still going on. Dont know whether we will get FOC by 2012 end or not,
Arjun Tank:- Modifications are still going on although 83 already inducted in Army. But Army still not satisfied.
Submarines :- Delayed by 3 years DCNS contract with France.
Astra missiles:- still under construction
AGNI missiles :- 1500 and above range .Serial production not yet started. Still testing is going on.
ASTRA missiles for Fighter planes:- Still under construction. Now Derby missiles selected.
Recent failure of tested Prithvi missle.
Every project is going on except Brahmose misslie.
DRDO is not completing anything and keeping us in danger by delaying the projects. Scientist are not capable of giving the product in time. It is now ime to recruit young scentist so that our future get protected.
Just taking funds from Govt and not deleiveing produts in time. Due to which our neighbouring countries are ahead of us in every tchnology even if it is taken by others.
what is our future. Do we face defeat in NEXT war with such figures ? I am defence related news fr the last 4 years from various sites.
