Air Marshal Keshava Murthy Rama Sundara is new boss of maintenance
Air Marshal KM Sundara AVSM VSM will take over as Air Officer-in-charge Maintenance at Air Headquarters, New Delhi, responsible for Maintenance Management of all Weapon Systems and Equipment of IAF, on 01 Dec 07.
Air Marshal Rama Sundara is an Electrical Engineering graduate from MC Hassan, Karnataka. He holds a Masters Degree in Defence Studies from the prestigious “Defence Services Staff College”. Wellington. He has undergone the Senior International Defence Management Course at the Naval Post Graduate School, Monterery, USA besides being trained abroad on the MiG-23 & Mig-29 fighter aircraft systems. He is a fellow of Institution of Engineers and Institution of Electrical & Tele Communication Engineers and active member of the Aeronautical Society of India.
The Air Marshal has a rich and varied experience in various facets of the maintenance organization in the IAF ranging from fighter aircraft to the ground based communication systems. He was involved in induction of MiG-23 and MiG-29 aircraft into Indian Air Force and setting up of the MiG-29 overhaul facilities. He has worked as the Chief Engineering Officer at Air Force Station Kalaikonda besides commanding Air Force Station Sulur. As the Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Systems), he was responsible for the maintenance of a varied range of Radars, Communications, Armament, Guided weapons, Avionics Modification and System development in his previous appointment as Senior Maintenance Staff Officer at Headquarters Maintenance Command, the Air Marshal was overseeing the indigenisation and modernization of all assets of IAF. He took keen interest in undertaking the extension of Airframe/Aeroengine which were otherwise meant to be disposed off without any effective utilization. He was actively involved with PSUs, DRDO Academic Institutions and Civil Agencies for industry-service interaction and evolving better maintenance service support.
For his distinguished service, Air Marshal Rama Sundara was conferred the Vishisht Seva Medal in 1994 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in year 2006 by the President of India.
The Air Marshal is an avid sportsman, his speciality being the Adventure sports. He has undergone a Skydiving course and likes to relax with a sedate game of gold. Born in year 1950, Air Marshal Rama Sundara is married to Nalini, who hold Masters Degree in Physics and trained Teacher.
