Air Marshal KD Singh takes over SWAC

Air Marshal Kanwar Dalinderjit Singh has taken over the charge of South Western Air Command (SWAC) from Air Marshal PK Mehra who retired on 30 April, 2007.
Air Marshal KD Singh, a graduate from National Defence Academy was commissioned as a fighter pilot in June 1970. He has more than 4400 hrs of flying mainly on Fighter aircraft. In 1971 Bangladesh liberation war, he was the “Forward Air Controller” with the Indian Army. He was also deputed to the Iraqi Air Force as an instructor for two years in 1982. The Air Marshal is an alumnus the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College, New Delhi.
He was appointed as the Senior Air Staff Officer of the Central Air Command of the Indian Air Force at Allahabad in March 2006.Air Marshal KD Singh had held the appointments of Joint Director Plans and Principal Director Training (Flying) at the Air HQ. The Air Marshal was holding the appointment of Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Personnel Officers) at Air HQ Vayu Bhavan, New Delhi before taking over as Senior Air Staff Officer.
He has commanded a frontline fighter Squadron and has been Chief Operations Officer of a fighter base as well as Chief Instructor (Flying) at the Air Force Academy. He has served with the Aircrew Examination Board inspecting fighter squadrons and pilots for instrument flying procedures and categories.
The Air Marshal has commanded Air Force Station Bidar, a premier flying training base in Training Command and Air Force Station Palam. The Air Marshal was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2000 for exceptional devotion to duty.
On his arrival at HQ SWAC in Gandhinagar, the new AOC-in-C was presented a ‘Guard of Honour’ and later he was introduced to the Command Officers by the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO). He also addressed all Officers of the Command HQ.
