Indian Army has a new claim against the Arjun Tank. It claims that the engine of the Arjun Tank has failed four times. Before I get into the details further, its necessary that the background of this new claim has to be told.
Last year, Combat Vehicle Research Development Establishment (CVRDE, a unit of Defence Research and Development Organisation) was ready for a comparative trial between Indian Army’s imported T-90S and the license produced T-72 versus the home grown Arjun Tank as asked by army. The Indian Army officials realizing that the national media is scrutinizing the tanks performance, pulled out of the trials and went for a “accelerated usage cum reliability trial” (AUCRT).

The Communication/Navigation Outage Forecasting System (C/NOFS) satellite was successfully launched today from the U.S. Army’s Reagan Test Site in the Kwajalein Atoll, Republic of the Marshall Islands. C/NOFS is a Department of Defense (DOD) Space Test Program and Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) mission that will forecast outages in DOD satellite communication links caused by ionospheric irregularities.
The satellite communication and navigation systems used by the Air Force and other DOD agencies are susceptible to outages due to ionospheric disturbances (scintillations) in the Earth’s equatorial region. C/NOFS is designed to help predict these scintillations. C/NOFS is the first-ever satellite system to forecast the potential degradation of satellite communication, navigation and surveillance systems due to ionospheric scintillations.

The US Army announced today its decision to permanently station the 2/25th Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) at Schofield Barracks Military Reservation upon completion of its current deployment to Iraq.
Hawaii was selected after careful consideration of significant factors primarily because it is best able to meet the Army’s strategic defense and national security needs in the Pacific theater. This decision considered the limitations in Hawaii in terms of training ranges, maneuver land, and impacts to sensitive environmental resources as well as the other considered locations.

A fresh Request For Proposal (RFP) is to be issued for procurement of deep-submergence rescue vessels for Indian Navy.
The Indian Navy operates Indian Naval Ship (INS) Nireekshak (Diving Support Vessel) which uses a rescue bell to rescue personnel within its designed parameters from a submarine in distress. The option for a global partnership for such rescue is also available. The present status of the procurement process is under formulation.

Microturbo continues to pursue its diversification strategy by expanding its product range to the TR-3, a new turbojet engine which develops 30 daN of thrust. With the TR-3, Microturbo now offers a thrust range of 30 to 600 daN. The key features of the TR-3 are a streamlined architecture with a centrifugal compressor, a straight-flow combustor and a single-stage axial turbine.
Although it shares a number of key technological features with other Microturbo turbojet engines, the TR‑3 also integrates its own state-of-the-art technology, including not only a high-speed alternator (100,000 rpm) and a pyrotechnic igniter cartridge for virtually instant starting, but also innovative shaft bearings.

The first A400M, MSN001, has just left station 40 where all the aircraft systems’ interfaces have been connected and the electrical system has been successfully tested with power-on. These activities are in line with the current programme plan.
From station 40 the aircraft has been moved to station 35 where all the systems on board will be checked for compliance with design requirements and data automatically recorded for later analysis and evaluation. This represents an important step forward as station 35 is one of the few stations left before First Flight.

Raytheon Company is developing transmit-receive modules based on the advanced semiconductor gallium nitride (GaN) for use in future radar upgrades. “This transmit-receive module demonstration and parallel reliability testing show that GaN will soon be ready to take over where increased power and advanced capabilities are needed,” said Mark Russell, vice president of Engineering at Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS).
The development is part of an on-going 42-month, $11.5 million Next Generation Transmit Receive Integrated Microwave Module (NGT) contract funded by the Missile Defense Agency’s Advanced Technology Directorate. Raytheon is demonstrating that transmit-receive modules using GaN-powered
monolithic microwave integrated circuit amplifiers have a significant performance advantage in that they provide significantly higher radio frequency power with greater efficiency than current modules.

The Boeing Company has delivered the first Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition (LJDAM) kits to the U.S. Air Force. The Precision Laser Guidance Set (PLGS) kits are being produced to satisfy the Air Force and Navy’s urgent need for engagement of fast-moving land targets.
The initial $28 million LJDAM contract, awarded in May 2007, will add 600 laser seekers to the services’ existing inventory of 500-pound bombs. The First Article Acceptance Testing (FAAT) of production units was completed in March. The Air Force performed the FAAT guided flight tests at the China Lake, Calif., test range with drops from F-15E and F-16 aircraft. The tests demonstrated LJDAM’s ability to engage and destroy targets moving at up to 70 miles per hour.
